Construction has begun on the 227-room, Godfrey Hotel on Michigan Avenue in Detroit's Corktown, near the train station the Ford Motor. Co. is developing.

The hotel, between Trumbull and Eighth Street, will cost in the ball park of $50 million and open in 2023, Crain's Detroit Business reports. It's a joint venture of Farmington Hills-based Hunter Pasteur Homes and Chicago-based Oxford Capital Group LLC.

The seven-story hotel willl include a large indoor/outdoor rooftop lounge, a first-floor restaurant and a ballroom.

Crain's reports:

The hotel, announced in March 2020, is the first phase of what is expected to be a two-phase project which also includes a seven-story, 188-unit apartment building plus a second building with seven four-story townhomes and a three-story 216-space parking deck. Retail would also be included in the apartment building and parking structure.
