Updated: Elissa Slotkin Ekes Out Victory in Michigan Senate Race. John James Wins.

Update: 3:21 p.m. Wednesday -- Democratic U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin eked out a win in the U.S. Senate race in Michigan against Republican Mike Rogers.

With 99 percent of the vote counted, Slotkin was declared the winner this afternoon, taking 48.6 percent of the vote compared to Roger's 48.3 percent  percent. The margin is about 18,400. 

Update: 1:42 p.m. Wednesday: Donald Trump won Michigan and its 15 electoral votes, the Associated Press declared Wednesday afternoon. With 98 percent of the vote in, he beat Kamala Harris  49.7 percent to 48.3 percent.  

Update: 12:37 Wednesday: Elissa Slotkin's lead over Mike Rogers grew from about 5,000 to 10,000 earlier today, to 18,445 this afternoon, according to  the New York Times.

From Earlier Wednesday

It was a night that was depressing for Democrats and jubilant for Republicans, with Donald Trump riding to victory.

Incumbent Republican Congressman John James defeated Democratic challenger Carl Marlinga. With more than 90 percent of the vote in, James got 207,237 votes or 51.1 percent, compared to Marlinga who got 182,301 or 44.9 percent. 

It was the second time in a row James defeated Marlinga.

Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin has 2,639,531 of the votes, or 48.55 percent compared to former Congressman Mike Rogers' 2,634,909 votes or 48.46 percent, with 95 percent of the vote in. 

The race was marked by dueling attack ads.

In mid-Michigan, Republican Tom Barrett defeated Democrat Curtis Hertel for the Congressional seat held by Slotkin.
