Detroit Police officers are stepping up patrols of DDOT buses following a week of violence. On Tuesday, a bus driver stabbed a passenger, and on Wednesday, a passenger shot another one. Both victims survived.

On Tuesday, Detroit bus driver Troy A. Lincoln, 55, of West Bloomfield, allegedly stabbed and wounded a passenger following an argument over a fare around 6:20 p.m. near Gratiot and E. 7 Mile Road, according to authorities.

Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald said the passenger, who had been turned away, spit on the driver, who then pulled out a knife and stabbed the man in the left side of his abdomen and the right side of his face.

The driver faces charges of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

In a separate incident the following day, on Wednesday morning, a suspect shot a man aboard a bus on Eight Mile Road.

Assistant Chief Fitzgerald said the suspect was riding the bus around 7:25 a.m. when he got up, approached another passenger, and fired a single shot, striking him in the upper chest. The victim, a 26-year-old man, is expected to survive. It's unclear if the two knew each other.

The shooter then got off the bus and persuaded a driver to take him to Mound and Davison on the city's east side, where he got out. Fitzgerald said it’s unclear whether the driver knew the suspect.

Police are searching for the man, who is described as being in his mid-50s.
