Marcellis Dushaun Williams, 39, of Detroit, faces gun charges after his six-year-old daughter discharged an unsecured gun in the home on Sunday and shot herself, suffering wounds to the shoulder and thumb.
“Luckily, this child will survive, but this never should have happened," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy in a statement. "The alleged actions of the parent in this case were completely irresponsible and are now criminal."
Police were called to the home in the 8800 block of Artesian Street on the city's west side around 9:00 a.m. and found the girl in a bedroom suffering from gunshot wounds to the shoulder and thumb. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Williams faces charges of firearms safe storage violations — premises under an individual’s control — minor present — and inflicting serious impairment of a body function upon self or another.
